Warsaw has one of the longest urban cycling routes in Poland along the Vistula — several kilometres of path on both banks of the river, with no crossings with car traffic. From Bonifraterska you’re on a bike within a few minutes, and an hour later you can be on a beach or in a beer garden on the other side of the city.
How to rent a bike from Bonifraterska
Veturilo — Warsaw’s public bike-share system — has a station at Plac Bankowy, 5 minutes’ walk from the apartment. Register via the app or at the terminal at the station. The first 20 minutes of each rental is free; by cycling in stints (docking, then renting again) you can ride all day for next to nothing.
A daily Veturilo pass costs around 10–15 PLN and gives unlimited access with 20-minute free segments. Stations are spaced every few hundred metres along the entire route.
Route: Vistula Boulevards → Powiśle → Świętokrzyski Bridge → Praga
From Plac Bankowy cycle south along Elektoralna or through Ogród Saski towards the Vistula Boulevards. Descend to the boulevards from Mariensztat or Powiśle — both have bicycle ramps.
Vistula Boulevards — a multi-kilometre promenade along the left bank of the Vistula. In summer packed with people: runners, skaters, families. Along the way views of the Royal Castle and Łazienkowski Bridge. Several food trucks and bar gardens en route.
Powiśle — the district that has become one of Warsaw’s most popular in recent years. Bars in basement spaces, gardens, terraces. In summer there are city beaches (Poniatówka and Bulwary) with free deck chairs and several drinks bars.
Świętokrzyski Bridge — a pedestrian and cycling bridge connecting Powiśle with Praga. Beautiful views of the city centre and the Vistula. The crossing takes 5–7 minutes.
Praga Północ — a different Warsaw. Old tenements, less renovated than on the left bank, a bar mleczny, art galleries, Bazar Różyckiego. A more authentic atmosphere than the centre. Worth cycling along Ząbkowska Street and the surrounding area.
Return and alternatives
From Praga you can return via Most Śląsko-Dąbrowski (northwards) or Świętokrzyski Bridge (the same route back). The full loop — from Bonifraterska, through Powiśle, across the bridge and a short ride around Praga, back again — is about 15–20 km and 2.5–3 hours of easy cycling with breaks.
If you get tired earlier: take a tram back from any bridge. Leave Veturilo at the nearest station and get public transport home.
What to bring
- Veturilo app — download before leaving, set up your account
- ZTM daily ticket (approx. 19 PLN) — in case you return by tram
- Water bottle — there are plenty of places to refill along the route, but in summer it’s good to have your own
- Payment card — for bars and food trucks along the boulevards
- Sunscreen — much of the route is exposed, without shade
When to go
May to September is the optimal time. At weekends the boulevards get crowded in the afternoon — set out in the morning (around 9:00) to have the route to yourself. Weekdays are quieter throughout the day.
In winter the route is open but bars and beaches are closed. The cycling path still functions; Praga and Powiśle are accessible year-round.
