One of the biggest advantages of Bonifraterska 16/11 is that you can walk to most of the good restaurants, cafés and bars in Warsaw. You don’t need to order a taxi for the evening — you can simply go out. This guide lists places within walking distance, organised by time of day.
Breakfast and coffee — Krakowskie Przedmieście and New Town
The best morning in Warsaw starts on Krakowskie Przedmieście — 15 minutes’ walk from the apartment, with several cafés serving morning coffee and breakfast. Along this street you’ll find both classic Polish breakfast (eggs, bread, cold cuts) and more contemporary options.
Alternatively: Freta Street in New Town — one of the prettier streets in the centre, with small cafés and restaurants that open early. The New Town is quieter than the Old Town, prices are often lower and the atmosphere more local. A good choice if you want morning coffee without the tourist premium.
Lunch — New Town Market Square and around Miodowa
Miodowa Street and its side streets form a continuous belt of restaurants between the Old Town and Muranów — exactly between your apartment and the historic centre. Polish restaurant cuisine, bistros with lunch menus, a few Mediterranean places. The lunch break in Warsaw runs from 12 to 14, and many restaurants offer a two-course menu at a low price.
If you fancy something lighter, Krasiński Garden (entrance from Miodowa, 8 minutes from the apartment) has benches and is a perfect spot for a takeaway lunch on a warm day.
Dinner — where to go in the evening without a taxi
Warsaw’s evening scene concentrates around the Old Town, New Town and the city centre axis — and all of it is within walking distance. A few zones worth knowing:
- Old Town Market Square — classic dinner with a view of the rebuilt tenements. Prices here are higher than elsewhere in the centre, but the location is unique. Book a table in advance for Friday and Saturday evenings.
- Freta Street — more intimate than the Market Square, good for dinner at restaurants serving Polish and European cuisine. Several venues have summer terraces.
- Plac Teatralny and around Senatorska — closer to the apartment (about 10 minutes’ walk), a mix of restaurants, bars and cafés with a more local clientele.
Evening and bars — what to do after dinner
Warsaw has a lively nightlife concentrated in several districts. Praga Północ (across the river, about 20 minutes by tram) and Powiśle (30 minutes’ walk along the Vistula) are the two most popular bar zones — more alternative, with a high concentration of good cocktail bars.
If you prefer to stay closer: the area around Plac Teatralny and Nowy Świat has several solid bars. The evening can end with a walk back along Krakowskie Przedmieście to Bonifraterska — an open, safe, well-lit route.
What to know about eating in Warsaw
- Opening hours: Restaurants usually open from 12:00 and work until 22:00–23:00. The kitchen often closes at 21:30 even if the bar stays open later.
- Tips: 10–15% is standard for good service. Increasingly paid by card at the terminal.
- Reservations: On Friday and Saturday, book in advance, especially at popular places in the Old Town. On weekdays you can usually walk in without a reservation.
- Prices: Lunch at a restaurant: 40–80 PLN/person. Dinner with wine: 80–150 PLN/person. Café coffee: 15–20 PLN.
- Card vs. cash: Cards accepted almost everywhere. Cash (złoty) is useful in smaller cafés or at markets.
Your base — the apartment on Bonifraterska
The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen — fridge, induction hob, oven, coffee machine, crockery and cutlery. If you want to start the day with homemade coffee or come back from the market with fresh produce and cook something yourself, you have everything you need. This is also an option for guests who prefer not to eat out for every meal.
A Biedronka supermarket is nearby. Carrefour and Żabka are a few minutes’ walk away.
